Creating Subdomains
Subdomains
Overview
A subdomain is a separate section of your website that uses your main domain name.
For example, if your domain is:
autoscale.uk
You could create subdomains such as:
blog.autoscale.uk
shop.autoscale.uk
support.autoscale.uk
Each subdomain can have its own website content and files.

How to Access Subdomains
- Log in to your hosting control panel.
- Click Manage Hosting.
- Select your hosting package.
- Click Manage Subdomains.
You will see options to create and manage subdomains.
Create a New Subdomain
Step 1: Enter the Subdomain Name
In the Subdomain field, enter the name you want to use.
For example:
blog
This would create:
blog.autoscale.uk
Step 2: Select the Domain
Choose the domain you want the subdomain to use.
Example:
autoscale.uk
Step 3: Choose the Document Root
The Document Root is the folder where the subdomain’s website files will be stored.
For example:
public_html/blog
Any files uploaded to that folder will be displayed when someone visits:
blog.autoscale.uk
Step 4: Create the Subdomain
After completing the fields:
- Review the settings.
- Click Create Subdomain.
The subdomain will be added to your hosting package.

Understanding Document Root
The Document Root tells the server where to find the website files for your subdomain.
Example
Subdomain:
blog.autoscale.uk
Document Root:
public_html/blog
Website files placed inside:
public_html/blog
will be displayed when visitors access:
blog.autoscale.uk
Manage Existing Subdomains
All created subdomains will appear in the Modify Subdomains section.
From there, you can:
- View existing subdomains
- Change settings
- Remove subdomains if no longer needed
If you have not created any subdomains yet, you will see:
You currently don’t have any subdomains.

Common Uses for Subdomains
Some common examples include:
| Subdomain | Purpose |
|---|---|
| blog.autoscale.uk | Blog or news section |
| shop.autoscale.uk | Online store |
| support.autoscale.uk | Help centre |
| dev.autoscale.uk | Testing website |
