Enabling DNSSEC Protection

DNSSEC Protection

Overview

DNSSEC (Domain Name System Security Extensions) adds an extra layer of security to your domain’s DNS records.

It works by digitally signing your DNS records, helping visitors reach the correct website and preventing attackers from providing fake DNS information.

If your domain uses AutoScale’s nameservers, DNSSEC can help ensure the DNS records returned to visitors are authentic and have not been modified.

How to Access DNSSEC Protection

  1. Log in to your hosting control panel.
  2. Click Manage Hosting.
  3. Select your hosting package.
  4. Click DNSSEC Protection.

You will see the DNSSEC status for your domain.

What Does DNSSEC Do?

Normally, when someone visits your website, their device asks DNS servers where your website is located.

DNSSEC adds a digital signature to those DNS records.

This allows browsers and internet providers to verify that the DNS information received is genuine and has not been altered.

Think of it like a tamper-proof seal on a package. If the seal is valid, you know the contents are authentic.

DNSSEC Status

On the DNSSEC Protection page, you’ll see whether DNSSEC is enabled or disabled.

Activated

If the status shows Activated, your DNS zone is being digitally signed and protected.

Important Requirement

DNSSEC should only be enabled if your domain is using AutoScale nameservers.

Example nameservers:

ns1.stackdns.com
ns2.stackdns.com
ns3.stackdns.com
ns4.stackdns.com

If your domain uses third-party nameservers, DNSSEC should be managed through that provider instead.

Benefits of DNSSEC

DNSSEC helps:

  • Protect against fake DNS responses
  • Improve trust in your domain’s DNS records
  • Reduce the risk of DNS spoofing attacks
  • Ensure visitors are directed to the correct website

Do I Need to Configure Anything?

In most cases, no.

When DNSSEC is enabled on supported domains using AutoScale nameservers:

  • DNS records are signed automatically
  • Registry records are submitted automatically
  • No manual setup is required
