Setting up Junk Mail Filters

Junk Mail Filters

Overview

The Junk Mail Filters section helps protect your email accounts from spam, phishing emails, and viruses.

Spam filtering is enabled automatically on all hosted mailboxes.

When an email is received:

  • Emails containing viruses are automatically rejected.
  • Emails identified as spam are placed in the Junk folder.
  • Normal emails are delivered to your Inbox.

You can also create custom rules to block or allow specific senders.

Junk Filter Levels

The Junk Filter Level controls how aggressively spam is filtered.

Current Example

DomainFilter Level
autoscale.ukHigh

Available Levels

Low

Filters only obvious spam.

Less chance of genuine emails being filtered.

Medium

Balanced protection for most users.

Recommended for typical business email accounts.

High

Blocks more spam but may occasionally move genuine emails into the Junk folder.

Useful if you receive large amounts of unwanted email.

Tip: If customers report missing emails, try lowering the filter level and check the Junk folder regularly.

Reject by Sender

Reject by Sender allows you to completely block emails from specific senders, domains, or domain extensions.

Blocked emails will not reach your mailbox.

Add a Domain Rule

A Domain Rule applies to every mailbox on your domain.

Example

If you block:

spamdomain.com

all mailboxes on:

autoscale.uk

will reject emails from that domain.

How to Create a Domain Rule

  1. Scroll to Reject by Sender.
  2. Locate Add Domain Rule.
  3. Select your domain.
  4. Enter the sender domain.

Example:

spamdomain.com

You can block all domains ending with a specific extension.

Example:

.ru

This would block emails from domains ending in:

example.ru
company.ru
mail.ru

Add a Mailbox Rule

A Mailbox Rule only affects one email address.

Example

Block emails from:

spamdomain.com

for:

info@autoscale.uk

while allowing other mailboxes on the domain to continue receiving them.

Steps

  1. Locate Add Mailbox Rule.
  2. Enter the mailbox name.
  3. Select your domain.
  4. Enter the sender address or domain.
  5. Click Add Rule.

Allow by Sender

Allow by Sender creates a trusted sender list.

Emails from approved senders will always be accepted, even if they would normally be flagged as spam.

This is useful when important emails are accidentally going to the Junk folder.
